Drop Kenny a line
Sunday Soul Topping
Kenny started DJ’ing in 1980 at the age of 17 when he was a roadie and warm up DJ for a national mobile disco, working all around the UK. He eventually branched out on his own and with a couple of friends started their own mobile disco playing at various parties and clubs in and around London. He had numerous jobs along the way include a van driver, retail store manager, silk screen printer and, his main trade, a signwriter & sign maker but continued doing discos for weddings and parties part time. Fast forward a few years (and hundreds of gigs later) he was offered a position as cover presenter on Choice FM after being introduced by his good friend and author Nigel B, filling in for the likes of Delite’s Terry Peters and after just a few months he managed to secure a weekly show on Choice presenting the Friday Night UK Garage Show, taking over from Booker T. Kenny also completed a HND in Radio Production which helped to get him a full time job as a commercial producer and script writer at Choice FM.
As the UK Garage explosion was so big in London Kenny was much in demand and joined the club ‘circuit’ playing at venues such as the Ministry of Sound, Cafe De Paris and the Aquarium but as a Soul boy he always stayed true to his roots playing at many old school events such as Behind the Groove at Dingwalls, Corks Wine Bar, the Choice FM weekenders and The Hustle at The Motown Soul Bar which was a weekly event he promoted with his wife. Choice was bought by The Capital Radio Group in 2004 and Kenny was offered position as a creative writer for Choice FM and later, all the stations in the group. The trade off was he had to give up his show on Choice in favour of the full time job but did get a weekly show on Sound Radio and later presented the Weekend Breakfast Show on South London Radio during which time he completed the world famous Knowledge of London and left Capital (which became GCap and now Global) to become a London Cabby which he still does today. Kenny pretty much stopped DJ’ing until his good friend James Anthony gave him a call to cover his show on Solar Radio which he did for a number of years. Along the way he has also qualified as a Domestic Electrical Installer with a City & Guilds, has a brown belt in MMA Krav Maga and is a self taught cabinet maker which has led him to start his own furniture making business called The London Shed. As much as he loves making things his first love as always been radio so he jumped at the chance to present shows on Delite Radio and his very proud to be part of the Delite Family.
