Head honcho… the main squeeze… the gaffer… DA BOSS!
Tony Jay is the founder and driving force behind Delite Radio and The Delite Group, with a passion for music and broadcasting that stretches back more than 40 years.
Tony began his journey in the music industry as a DJ, playing at major clubs and exclusive venues across London, the West End and the Home Counties. His love of soul, funk, dance and great music soon took him beyond the DJ booth and into the wider music business.
He went on to open his own London record shop, Soul Power Records, while building a loyal following through his radio shows. With his finger firmly on the pulse of new music coming out of America, Tony worked alongside some of the biggest names in the industry, including pioneering producers from the emerging US and Chicago house scenes.
At a time when getting the latest American releases into the UK really meant something, Tony earned a reputation for being ahead of the game. He became the first DJ at the time to officially air newly imported US 12-inch singles in the UK within just two hours of them arriving in the country.
His radio shows developed a huge and loyal listening audience, something Tony remains enormously grateful for to this day.
Tony’s career also took him into the record industry, where he negotiated and established a record deal involving Azuli Records and the Phaze One label, sister company to Ministry of Sound. He was subsequently signed with a remit to executive produce and release a series of singles, followed by an album.
All those years of experience, a lifelong love of music and a belief in doing radio with personality eventually helped create what we know today as Delite Radio.
